Forum on Inclusive STEM Entrepreneurship
The forum was developed to broaden the participation of minority women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) entrepreneurship and to enhance the diversity of the science and engineering workforce. Each convening will include educators, entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, industry leaders, investors and policy experts, entrepreneurial education thought leaders, and intersectionality scholars. The forum serves as a platform for building capacity in the preparation and development of future entrepreneurs from underrepresented groups.
The first forum convening which took place November 30 - December 1, 2017 in Washington, D.C. at the American Association for the Advancement of Science headquarters. During the two-day event, 45 participants discussed best practices to sustain the initiative and developing a repository of resources and of data on the implementation of best practices across the United States.
The second forum convening took place October 15 - 16, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Participants included content experts, SBIR and I-Corps alumni, STEM/Technology industry leaders and advocates, investors, diversity, intersectionality and entrepreneurship scholars and federal agency partners. During the two-day workshop participants developed the framework for FISE and created a collection of resources for dissemination.
