Dr. Chinonye Nnakwe Whitley will provide an overview of Design Thinking, which centers around developing an understanding of the people/audience for whom entrepreneurs are designing their products or services for.

The Ins and Outs of Technology Transfer at HBCUs

The audience will learn about the benefits of university technology transfer as well as recommendations for working with the Tech Transfer office on your campus and what you can do if your campus does not have a Tech Transfer office.

Innovation and the Power of Transdisciplinary Collaboration

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from two entrepreneurs, Dr. Ronald Williams, Director of the Center for Strategic Entrepreneurship at Coppin State University, and Dr. Diana Yousef, Founder and CEO of change:WATER Labs.

Back to School and “Out” of School in a New Paradigm of Teaching, Learning, and Conducting Research

The ERN team is presenting a panel webinar with a community panel to discuss the challenges of education in the modern climate. The global pandemic has created a new paradigm in the education sector that affects, all aspects of teaching, learning, and conducting research. Our panel will delve into these subjects and talk about how they and their organizations seek to overcome the current landscape of obstacles and produce results.

The Making & Innovation Community's Response to COVID-19

In the second edition of the AAAS HBCU Making and Innovation webinar series, we will have presentations and a panel discussion featuring Dorothy Jones-Davis, Executive Director for the Nation of Makers,  Nina Archie, Project Manager, and Diversity Tech Policy Advisor of The Commercializer, and Joey Womack, Founder of Goodie Nation and Startup Labs Manager, WeWork.  Together they will share the importance of having a diverse set of problem solvers, who are engaged in the maker movement, technology and commercialization, and entrepreneurship to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.   Participants will learn the advantages and power of collaborations when addressing challenges on both a regional and global scale.

STEM and Social Entrepreneurship

This webinar is part of our inaugural HBCU Making and Innovation series. The speaker is Deirdre Robinson of Detroit, Michigan. Deirdre will share her journey in STEM and social entrepreneurship, as well as, advice and insights to support innovators of color and an inclusive innovation community of practice. Participants will also learn tips on how they can leverage their STEM expertise to address issues in their community and how they can adapt to and utilize this new paradigm we are in regarding how we learn, teach and work during a pandemic and social unrest.

SUSTAINABLE RESEARCH PATHWAYS

The recruiting process for the 6th Annual Sustainable Research Pathways (SRP) program has begun.  Through SRP, faculty working with students from underrepresented and underprivileged backgrounds attend a Matching Workshop at Berkeley Lab to explore potential research collaborations.  Matched faculty apply for funding for faculty/student teams or to send their students for collaborative research projects in the summer of 2021. 

Applicants must be a full-time faculty member at an accredited U.S. degree-granting institution of higher education including: minority serving institutions, community, women’s, and liberal arts colleges, as well as high research institutions. 

The Sustainable Research Pathways Program provides the chance to work in conjunction with Berkeley Lab staff, world leaders in computing and computational biology, physics, materials, chemistry, and energy sciences research.

VANNEVAR BUSH FACULTY FELLOWSHIP

The Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship is open to distinguished tenured faculty and full-time research staff at accredited, doctoral degree-granting U.S. educational institutions. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for an award.

The application process will be carried out in three stages:

  1. Online registration (required)

  2. Submission of White Paper Package (required)

  3. Submission of Proposal Package (via grants.gov) (by invitation only) and Confidential Letters of Recommendation (required)

The second stage requires applicants to submit materials through this website. In order to submit materials you must be registered on the website at least two days before the submission deadline.

DOD NDSEG FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The DoD NDSEG Fellowship Program, established in 1989 by direction of Congress and sponsored by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, serves as a means of increasing the number of United States citizens trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance. This program is designed to encourage Baccalaureate recipients to enter Graduate school and ultimately gain Doctorates which align to the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) in research and development.

NIGMS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE TRAINING PROGRAM

On Tuesday July 14 at 2 PM, NIGMS will host a webinar for the the NIGMS Postdoctoral Research Associate (PRAT) training program on Thursday, July 14 at 2 PM.  

The webinar will be of special interest to graduate students likely to defend in the next year, recent Ph.D. graduates who may be interested in pursuing postdoctoral research at the NIH, or NIH postdocs who began their training on/after June 1, 2019.  The PRAT Program is especially interested in ensuring the applicant pool reflects the diversity of the biomedical Ph.D. talent pool, and I am requesting your help in identifying potential candidates.
